What is hot galvanized steel and cold galvanized steel

What is hot galvanized steel?

Hot galvanized steel is hot-dip galvanized steel.

This process involves immersing a steel sheet in a bath of molten zinc to create a coating that covers and protects all surfaces. The steel sheet is thoroughly coated to ensure maximum corrosion resistance.

What is cold galvanized steel?

Cold galvanized is coated zinc by electroplating on a steel sheet.

Cold galvanizing is a process where a layer of zinc is electroplated onto a steel surface to provide barrier protection and some degree of cathodic protection, similar to hot-dip galvanizing. However, for effective protection, the concentration of zinc dust in the coating or paint must be high enough to promote electrical conductivity between the steel and the zinc

Different to hot galvanized and cold galvanized.

Although hot-dip and cold galvanizing have similar purposes, their methods of application and performance differ significantly. Hot-dip galvanizing offers greater protection than cold galvanizing because it forms a thicker coating that chemically bonds with the metal. This gives it superior durability, abrasion resistance, and cathodic protection capabilities.

On the other hand, cold galvanizing is ideal for cost-effective and rapid application on smaller structures and components. While it may not provide the same level of protection as hot-dip galvanizing, it does have some advantages.

Hot-dip processes are generally more expensive and better suited for larger structures, typically for heavy-duty industrial uses.
