Aluminum Series

1000 Series

This series contains pure aluminum, with no other major alloying elements. It is soft and ductile, and commonly used for applications such as electrical conductors, foil, and packaging.

3000 Series

This series contains manganese as its primary alloying element. It has good corrosion resistance and is commonly used for applications such as cooking utensils, chemical equipment, and ductwork.

5000 Series

This series contains magnesium as its primary alloying element. It has excellent corrosion resistance and is commonly used for applications such as marine equipment, architectural facades, and transportation components.

6000 Series

This series contains both magnesium and silicon as its primary alloying elements. It is highly versatile and is commonly used for applications such as extrusions, structural components, and automotive parts.

Aluminum Sheet Temper

Aluminum sheet temper refers to the condition or state of the material after it has been subjected to specific heat treatment and/or cold working processes. The temper designation will determine the mechanical properties and formability of the sheet, so it is important to choose a temper that is suitable for the intended use. Here are some common aluminum sheet temper designations:

O - Annealed Tempe

This is the softest temper available for aluminum sheet. It has low strength and high ductility, making it suitable for applications that require forming and deep drawing.

H - Strain Hardened Temper

Aluminum sheet can be strain-hardened by cold working it, which increases its strength and hardness but reduces its ductility. The number following the “H” indicates the degree of strain hardening, with higher numbers indicating a greater degree of hardening.

T - Heat-Treated Tempe

Heat treatment can be used to increase the strength and hardness of aluminum sheet. The number following the “T” indicates the type of heat treatment that was used, with higher numbers indicating a more severe treatment.

F - As Fabricated Temper

This temper designation is used for aluminum sheet that has not undergone any additional heat treatment or cold working after fabrication.

W - Solution Heat Treated

This temper designation is used for aluminum sheet that has been heat-treated to dissolve the alloying elements and improve its ductility.

HX - Strain Hardened and Partially Annealed Temper

This temper designation is used for aluminum sheet that has been strain-hardened and then partially annealed to restore some of its ductility.
